Netgear DGFV338 ProSafe

The DGFV338 ProSafe Wireless ADSL Modem and VPN Firewall Router is a six-in-one networking appliance which aims to provide business-class protection for a small office or remote users. It incorporates an SPI firewall, 802.11g wireless access point, IPSec virtual private network (VPN), NAT router, an eight port 10/100 fast Ethernet switch and built-in ADSL2+ modem support. Comprehensive controls block or filter unwanted addresses, services, protocols, and URLs, fortifying a user's network. Up to 50 simultaneous IPSec VPN connections protect links between business locations, encrypting all traffic as it traverses the Internet. The appliance also supports an Ethernet WAN port for failover or for non-ADSL connections. The modem comes with Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) Enterprise which shields wireless communications with the highest available level of industry-standard encryption and authentication. The DGFV338 supports up to 253 users across a LAN or up to 20 users on WLAN.

ProCurve Switch 8212zl

The new ProCurve Switch 8212zl is designed for enterprise customers. According to the vendor, it completes its core-to-edge network solution by unifying network technology, infrastructure, software, operation, management and support while reducing complexity and lowering costs. The switch, which is based on HP-developed ProVision ASIC technology, comes with a lifetime warranty including standard next business day advanced-replacement (availability varies by location) and phone and email support. The 8212zl is a high-performance, highly scalable, chassis core switch platform that provides Layer 2 through Layer 4 features and advanced security. It also offers high-density Gigabit and 10GbE connectivity, making it suitable for high-speed core networking applications. Exinda Networks x800

Exinda has added three new application acceleration appliances to its x800 product family. The vendor claims these will be easier to install and improve the performance of mission critical applications on corporate networks. The second-generation 2800, 4800 and 6800 appliances aim to solve performance problems by accelerating critical applications, eliminating redundant data and prioritising network traffic traversing the wide area network. New features include: auto discovery, a new hybrid caching capability, bi-directional application acceleration at up to 155Mbps (seven times faster than its previous TCP acceleration rates), and a new acceleration module for HTTP traffic. The auto discovery feature simplifies installation by eliminating time consuming, complex configurations, the vendor said. Network managers can simply plug in the intelligent appliance and all devices in the network auto discover each other. With hybrid WAN Memory, Exinda has doubled its caching capacity to improve application performance.
