Virtualisation vendor, Vizioncore, has replaced Infotronics with itX as it looks to build a national distribution network.

Vizioncore products aim to support vitualisation administrators by providing strategies for backup and recovery, disaster recovery, P2V/ V2V, performance monitoring and improvements and chargeback in virtualised environments.

Vizioncore regional sales director A/NZ, Anne Waterhouse, said itX was chosen as the vendor looks to move from the SMB space to become enterprise ready.

"We're also looking to build a national presence," she said. "The other benefit of itX is it is a VMware distributor and as a VMware partner this opens up opportunities for bundles we didn't previously have access to locally."

Although Vizioncore is terminating its relationship with Infotronics, it will retain its first local distributor, Datastor, as an alternative to itX.

"The market isn't able to handle three distributors. Infotronics has done a great job at building us up and I'd like to thank them for it, but we need a national distributor now," Waterhouse said. "Datastor has a strong relationship-based channel in Queensland and is very proactive in supporting Vizioncore. I hope there's enough business for both distributors - there is a lot of activity in Queensland, so I think they will be able to work without competition."

Waterhouse said it had a reseller base of around 40, which would potentially double now that itX was on-board.

itX general manager, Greg Newham, said the distributor was positioning itself as a virtualisation specialist and the Vizioncore product supported its VMware offerings.

"We're looking for other products that support our Citrix, VMware, Sun and Red Hat platforms so we can offer better solutions to customers," he said.

Vizioncore would be bundled in where appropriate with VMware and become part of training programs so customers will have the opportunity to round out their own offerings, Newham said.

Infotronics established an exclusive arrangement with Vizioncore in 2006. Technical director, Phil Lancaster, said Vizioncore wanted to work with a distributor that looked after VMware.

"They were a clearly important to us in terms of their revenue position in the business," he said. "Almost in exact parallel to this happening, Veeam, who we've been dealing with for a period of time, decided it was time for them to become very active in the market and they compete against the same product set as Vizioncore."

In other news, Infotronics has hired Lance Burns to the newly created role as channel manager for Queensland and New Zealand. The new hire coincides with Infotronics' new office opening in Brisbane this month. Burns previously worked for Loop Technology.
