Microsoft has announced plans to open its own retail stores in the US to "transform the PC and Microsoft buying experience," the company said and it hired an executive to run the operation. Would you use a Microsoft store? What does it mean for the channel?

I don't know if it will have an effect on the channel - Microsoft's channel partners here don't seem concerned, but a Microsoft retail outlet would certainly be an exciting prospect from a consumer perspective.

Yeah, I guess it would be good to see vista crash and the red ring of death for those of us who never bothered to line Microsoft's pockets with our hard earned

Microsoft is going more and more direct - just look at what they are doing in the US. It'll come here too.
