US-based data protection and storage company, Iron Mountain, has added to its stable of Australian acquisitions with the purchase last week of the local data protection service provider, DigiGuard, for an undisclosed sum.
This is Iron Mountain's second acquisition in the last year, after it purchased Pickfords Records Management in October. According to Australasian managing director, Ian Hollow, the buying spree was set to continue, with Iron Mountain having well publicised plans for expansion in the Asia-Pacific. It had also recently announced a new joint venture in India.
DigiGuard will be incorporated into Iron Mountain as the local data protection division. The DigiGuard brand would be retained. Its founder, Macgregor Thompson, and all staff would remain with the new company.
Operating since 1997, DigiGuard specialises in providing offsite data storage and IT risk mitigation solutions.
"Data protection is a core service worldwide and DigiGuard matches our criteria - it is well led, has a refined data protection product, a sound record of service and a strong customer base," Hollow said.
Already servicing major business and government centres in Australia and New Zealand, Hollow said he expected to increase its sales and marketshare through cross-selling opportunities to existing DigiGuard customers.
DigiGuard's data protection solutions complemented Iron Mountain's existing product line-up, including records management and information destruction solutions, as well as regulatory compliance offerings and disaster recovery, he said.
Iron Mountain would utilise its global channel program to support DigiGuard and its local customers, but as yet no new channel partners are being recruited.
