​Kiwi tech veteran departs IBM to head up Avnet’s NZ operations

Avnet recruits Kiwi tech veteran to lead New Zealand business.

Avnet has appointed Richard Lightfoot as Country Manager for the Technology Solutions business in New Zealand, replacing Glenn Dudding who recently returned to Lexel Systems.

Lightfoot joins the global distributor with strong experience across the local channel, exiting his role as CSM Systems and Technology Group at IBM New Zealand in the process.

With skills in both sales and distribution management, Lightfoot brings over 30 years of IT industry knowledge to the role, having guided the successful introduction and growth of vendors into New Zealand.

Lightfoot joins James Johnston, Solution Architect, Avnet New Zealand, in the Kiwi Auckland office, and will be focussed on driving premier solutions across the country.

“With the appointment of Richard we have gained the leadership and execution skills required to drive success for the New Zealand business,” says Darren Adams, vice president and general manager of Australia and New Zealand, Avnet Technology Solutions.

“We see great potential for growth in New Zealand and look forward to working closely with our partners to deliver innovative solutions within the region.”

According to Adams, Lightfoot’s experience in the IT industry, both in New Zealand and Australia, spans across sales, account management, marketing and vendor management.

“He is a strong addition to the Avnet team and will utilise his industry knowledge to grow Avnet’s current and prospective partner base across New Zealand,” Adams adds.

Lightfoot replaces the outgoing Dudding, who rejoined Enterprise Account Manager in March 2016, having originally left the company in 2006.

Speaking to Reseller News, Dudding said his return to the Auckland-based tech company was part of a “long-term strategy”, following stints at Hewlett Packard and IBM along the way.

“It was a long-term strategy for me to return to Lexel (from Computer Brokers 10 years ago),” he told Reseller News. “I learned a lot from HP and I am very grateful to IBM for investing so heavily in my training.

“The market has shifted to business value now and Lexel has grown accordingly with a very comprehensive sophisticated business offering.”
