Multi-national technology company, Cisco, has revealed plans to acquire application-defined Cloud orchestration company, CliQr Technologies.

The company’s CEO, Chuck Robbins, made the announcement at its global partner conference, the Cisco Partner Summit 2016 in San Diego.

CliQr Technologies is a privately held company and its Cloud orchestration platform enables businesses to model, deploy and manage applications across bare metal, virtualised and container environments.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cisco will pay $US260 million in cash and assumed equity awards, plus retention based incentives. The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of fiscal year 2016, subject to customary closing conditions.

The CliQr team will join Cisco’s Insieme Business Unit, reporting to Cisco senior vice-president and general manager, Prem Jain.

“Every single one of our acquisitions focus on what we’re looking into going forward – Cloud, security, IoT, collaboration, and analytics. They all fit, and with CliQr, we have the ability to scale the offering; it’s what our customers want and partners can capitalise on,” Robbins said.

“There is a need for us to move up the value stack in the datacentre and because our customers have been very clear that they want to live in a hybrid Cloud world, CliQr is a perfect fit.”

The company said the acquisition will help Cisco customers simplify and accelerate their private, public and hybrid Cloud deployments as CliQr is already integrated with a number of Cisco’s datacentre switching and Cloud solutions, including its Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) and Unified Computing System (UCS) solutions.

The CliQr integration will enable businesses to provide customers with a single, platform that helps them manage the entire application lifecycle across hybrid IT environments.

Cisco corporate development vice-president, Rob Salvagno, said CliQr’s CloudCenter platform provides a solution for modern IT organisations regardless of it they are moving their first applications to the cCoud, deploying self-service IT environments, or wanting to gain visibility and control across a vast portfolio of Clouds, applications and users.

“Customers today have to manage a massive number of complex and different applications across many Clouds.

“With CliQr, Cisco will be able to help our customers realise the promise of the Cloud and easily manage the lifecycle of their applications on any hybrid Cloud environment,” he said.

Salvagno added that moving forward, Cisco will continue to integrate CliQr across Cisco’s datacentre portfolio.

“Together, CliQr and Cisco will make it simpler for customers to automate and manage application policies across the entire datacentre stack.”
