Kaspersky Lab A/NZ managing director, Andrew Mamonitis, has left the security vendor after seven years to move into a director role at distributor, Hemisphere Technologies.
Mamonitis has officially started in his new capacity with Hemisphere and will be working out of the recently established Melbourne offices.
Hemisphere Technologies director, Peter Phokos, will focus on the operations side of the business which he intends to expand over the next twelve months, while Mamonitis will focus on sales, partner and vendor relationships.
“We have aggressive expansion plans for the next year and are hoping to grow our staff count by 30 per cent,” Phokos explained.
“Andrew is a critical part of those plans, bringing him on board as director allows me to focus on the operations side of the business while confident the sales side is being handled by one of the best in the business.
Mamonitis told ARN his experience with Kaspersky Lab and MYOB prior to that would hold him in good stead for the new role.
“The thing that excited me about the move to Hemisphere is the fact that the are very dynamic, growing extremely quickly. They remind me a lot of Kaspersky in the first few years I was with the company,” he said.
When Mamonitis joined Kaspersky in January 2009, the vendor had very little presence in the local market. In the first four months prior to opening an office, Mamonitis and his team were able to penetrate two of the largest retailers in Australia, Officeworks and JB Hi-Fi.
Within six months, Kaspersky Lab was the top selling security solution in one of the two retailers.
“In the early days, 95 per cent plus of our revenue came from the consumer business,” Mamonitis continued.
“Seven years on, the company is now at the stage where we have changed the revenue split to be 60 per cent consumer and 40 per cent business, a much healthier split.”
“I have been working very closely with Hemisphere as one of Kaspersky’s major distributors. I have seen them grow from a niche Kaspersky distributor about four years ago to one of the serious players in the market.
“Hemisphere have some excellent historical growth in revenue. Increasing that revenue and partner and vendor acquisitions will be my three areas of focus going forward. Hemisphere has a diverse range of products and the prospect of managing those and growing the channel is something I am very excited about.”
Kaspersky Lab marketing manager, Basem Abdo, has joined Mamonitis in moving across to the distributor and will serve as marketing manager for the organisation. He will also be based in the Melbourne office.
