Amcom completes major Cisco HCS deployment at University of Melbourne

Migrates 13,000 users in just four days

Perth-based ICT provider, Amcom, has completed its largest unified communications deployment project to date on the Cisco Hosted Collaboration platform.

It has migrated 13,000 University of Melbourne users to the new platform in just four days.

University of Melbourne staff and students, span 10 campuses in metropolitan and rural Victoria.

They now have access to Amcom’s unified communications andcollaboration platform, Amcom Cloud Collaboration (ACC).

Cisco A/NZ vice-president, Ken Boal, said the University of Melbourne contract marked a first for Cisco and Amcom, "as it is the largest publicly announced deployment of HCS into the higher education sector in Australia.”

Amcom chief operations officer, Michael Knee, said the deployment of ACC, and migration of 13,000 users, in such a short period of time, was the result of many hours of careful planning and collaboration between Amcom, AARNet, and the University of Melbourne.

"The seamless execution of this major project has exceeded all expectations,” he said.

Amcom Cloud Collaboration provides UoM with a pay-as-you-use service designed to enhance communication and collaboration between staff, students, and across campuses.

The platform offers a range of enterprise grade features including; Telephony, Video Telephony, Voicemail, Instant Messaging, Presence and Mobility (collaboration on smartphones and tablets).

The platform also provides full API integration, enabling customised internal management tools; including the ability to automatically provision new and change users on an ongoing basis.

Knee said deployment showcased the capability of our ACC platform and our ability to deliver large-scale, complex enterprise UC solutions to our customers.

"The project demonstrates Amcom’s capability to research, design and develop innovative solutions to enable seamless transition from on-premise to cloud based UC services,” he said.
