Hydro Tasmania group has deployed the SAP Work Manager mobile app mobilise its workforce and reduce costs across the business.
Hydro Tasmania is Australia’s largest producer of renewable energy and generates hydro and wind power.
It is also the largest water manager, has 55 major dams, operates 30 hydropower stations and has built some of Australia’s largest wind farms.
Hydro Tasmania also sells energy in the National Electricity Market through its retail business Momentum Energy, and sells its expertise internationally through its consulting business Entura.
The company moved a large number of legacy systems over to SAP to consolidate its systems into one streamlined solution.
After implementing SAP Work Manager for field operations, Hydro Tasmania is now running a comprehensive mobile application, empowering remote workers to make better-informed decisions and work more efficiently by giving them access to the relevant information they need at the point of performance.
As part of the technology transformation project, the introduction of tablets running SAP Work Manager has enabled plant managers and maintenance workers to drastically reduce the hours spent on manual data entry.
According to a company statement, it has simplified the process of reporting instances on the go, reducing the need to complete reporting after-hours or during lunch breaks.
This has helped employees save at least an hour each day by synching asset data automatically, rather than entering it into the system manually.
The data is then available to the wider business in near real time to help the organisation make better informed decisions quicker.
Hydro Tasmania, maintenance manager, David Shields, said the company had to constantly look at ways to operate more efficiently and effectively.Read more: Integration of Oracle/Sun Australian operations commences
"We needed to simplify tasks for our field workers and support the business to become more mobile, in order to make decisions faster than ever before," he said.
"SAP Work Manager is a big part of the success story we’re able to tell today, helping us to continue our position as a leader in the renewable energy sector in Australia.”
SAP general manager for platform solutions, Paul Muller, said, utilities and other asset-intensive manufacturing industries were heavily reliant upon their production equipment, power grids, vehicles and facilities, all of which contribute directly to the efficiency of their labour forces.
"One of the most influential technology advancements we are witnessing in these industries is the use of mobile devices and apps for managing assets in the enterprise.
“With SAP Work Manager, Hydro Tasmania has simplified the way it manages its business and can ensure delivery of mission-critical support of assets without any interruptions or delays. This leads to better performance and reliability across plants, fleets, networks and the enterprise infrastructure.”
Hydro Tasmania is now looking at utilising other tools such as SAP Screen Personas and SAP Fiori to improve the user experience and engage its users with intuitive, role-based user interfaces, as well as mobilise the business.
