Port Macquarie Base Hospital goes wireless

Communications solution part of hospital building expansion project

Ascom Wireless Solutions has completed implementation of a wireless communications platform for Port Macquarie Base Hospital in northern NSW.

The system formed part of the hospital’s $104 million building expansion project due for completion mid-2014.

Ascom said the solution delivers an interconnected communications platform that integrates Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi), Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) and Messaging technologies.

Ascom Wireless Solutions sales and marketing director, Feargal O’Farrell, said “Wi-Fi communication devices make it easier for clinicians and clinical support teams to instantly connect, communicate and collaborate, in their strive for deliver better patient care.”

The provider said the services enable staff to track assets, monitor fridge temperatures in real time, make phone calls anywhere on campus and receive immediate notification of urgent alarms anywhere at any time.

The platform is also said to provide a next generation wireless duress system with accurate location and complete emergency response workflows.
