Ingram Micro’s Australian arm has won exclusive distribution rights to Dell’s server, storage and networking portfolio, adding to similar agreements in other geographies.
The vendor’s decision to move these products into distribution adds another dimension to its PartnerDirect program. Previously resellers had been attaining the range directly from Dell for about half a decade.
Dell claims the agreement gives resellers greater flexibility, and shortens time to market.
“Our PartnerDirect program has been one of our biggest success stories in recent years and we’re now looking to build on that by working with Ingram Micro,” Dell Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) global commercial channel general manager, Peter Murphy, said.
“We want to give our customers choice, supported by local stock, first class service and support, as well as rapid deployment."
Both parties will have dedicated support teams; Aram Farzad will manage the program on the vendor’s end, while the distributor’s operations will be looked after by David Lenz.
Lenz, who is enterprise technology business senior director, said the deal provides customers with greater choice; the Dell hardware will sit beside products from the likes of IBM, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Cisco and more as Ingram Micro continues to bolster its portfolio of brands.
The high-profile partnership is the latest in a line of big moves from Dell Australia. On June 10, the vendor announced the departure of former managing director, Joe Kremer, who was replaced by Angela Fox.
In unveiling Dell’s ambitious strategy to ARN in October, Fox said the plan is “evangelising to the market, to customers, to prospects the fact that building from our core competency as an infrastructure provider, we really do have that end-to-end capability.”
This followed Dell’s announcement that it is set to open two new Australian datacentres in a partnership with Digital Realty and 6YS.
