IT pioneer and Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak, has accepted a job to teach as an adjunct professor at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS).

As part of his contract (of an undisclosed value), Wozniak will work with staff and students in the University’s engineering and IT faculty across the ‘Magic Lab’ (formally known as the Innovation and Enterprise Research Laboratory), School of Software, and Centre for Quantum Computation and Intelligent Systems.

The stint will include two to three annual visits – Wozniak is due for his second trip to UTS in December – and interactive telepresence sessions with research groups and student projects.

Students will also be permitted to interact with Wozniak on a one-to-one basis via telepresence, dependent on his availability upon request.

UTS's contract with Wozniak is open-ended, and has no fixed term.

“Wozniak constantly highlights the new possibilities for technology to change the world and enjoys sharing his insights and experiences,” lab director, Professor Mary-Anne Williams, said.

UTS deputy vice-chancellor, Professor Glenn Wightwick, claims, “His history aside, Wozniak remains a leading voice in innovation and a promoter of creativity and ingenuity, especially among the young technologists who will take the next step.”

“It is hard to imagine a more iconic mentor for UTS students than one of the most influential technology pioneers of the modern era.”
