Apple's Mac Mini follows iMacs, iPads with upgrades

The Mac Mini will start 'shipping' in Australia 18 October

Following revisions to Apple’s iPad range and 27in iMac is the Mac Mini, which was the beneficiary of processing updates and a new operating system.

The Mac Mini will ship in three variants, all of which will pack a dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, either Intel HD Graphics 5000 or Intel Iris Graphics, and will support the latest Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard.

Apple’s updated Yosemite rendition of OS X will come preinstalled on the Mac Min.

The base model will retail for $619 in Australia. It comes with a 1.4GHz (turbo boosted to 2.7GHz) dual-core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 5000 and a 500GB hard drive.

Apple’s top-of-the-range Mac Mini comes with a 2.8GHz (turbo boost up to 3.3GHz) dual-core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, Intel Iris Graphics and a 1TB hard drive. This model will retail for $1249.

OS X Yosemite

Yosemite is Apple’s best effort yet to bridge the divide between its computing OS X operating system and its mobile iOS platform by introducing innovative continuity features. Activities started on an iMac can be finished on an iPhone or iPad, and vice versa, to the extent it is possible to hold an iPhone call over an iMac’s speaker and microphone.

Additional updates to Yosemite include a design makeover, improvements to Spotlight and new versions of applications, including Safari, Mail, Messages and iTunes.

Apple will begin shipping the Mac Mini tomorrow, the 18 October.
