Telstra expands Cisco Intercloud to Hong Kong, Singapore

Cisco Cloud Services trials start for Australian node

Telstra has moved its Australian Cisco Intercloud platform into trial mode with selected customers and partners, and is taking another step towards globalisation with the extension of the platform into Hong Kong and Singapore.

The telecommunications and Cloud services provider joined forces with Cisco and Dimension Data earlier this year. In March it revealed it would build an OpenStack-based infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) that provisions Cloud and network services in real-time in response to increasing demand for management of multiple applications across hybrid public Cloud environments.

In June, Cisco global development and sales president, Rob Lloyd, told ARN Intercloud is an enterprise response to the multiple uses of Cloud technology the vendor expects to unfold in the coming decade.

Telstra Cloud executive director, Erez Yarkoni, said, “Through our strategic relationship with Cisco, development of the Cisco Intercloud has progressed well in Australia with Telstra customers and partners now trialing the service.”

“Ultimately this will create more choice and flexibility for our customers as they choose their future Cloud environments.”

Yarkoni claims Telstra is diversifying its Cloud portfolio rapidly with the goal of simplifying the transition to hybrid and public Cloud.

Commenting on the expansion, Cisco global Cloud sales senior vice-president, Nick Earle, said, “With the expansion of Intercloud to Hong Kong and Singapore, Telstra’s leading the way in providing customers with an incredible choice of services across private and public Clouds and the flexibility in how to consume them.”
