Vodafone says sorry for network downtime with unlimited data

Telco offering a weekend of unlimited data after voice and SMS service outages

Vodafone is apologising to customers for nationwide mobile network outages by offering unlimited data usage within Australia from 12:01am, June 21, to 3:00am on Monday, June 23 (AEST).

The unlimited data offer applies to prepaid and postpaid customers, according to an official blog post.

The telecommunications provider's voice and SMS services went down as a result of a failed transmission link in Western Australia which led to outages across Australia for its customers.

Vodafone first publicised the fault at 1:40pm on Thursday, June 19, after social media flooded with complaints.

It claimed that at 5:10pm its service was back up and running, although warned WA customers that they may experience isolated connection issues after that time.

Optus' network also went down for a period of time on Thursday; at about 6:00pm it said the majority of its customers' services had been restored and was continuing to fix the rest.

For those unable to use voice or SMS, it recommends a device restart to determine whether the resolution has taken effect.
