Australian networking vendor moves into Japan

NetComm Wireless builds on Kanematsu distribution partnership with new office in Tokyo

Sydney-based networking hardware vendor, NetComm Wireless, has opened shop in Tokyo, Japan, two months after it signed a distribution agreement with Kanematsu Communications which marked its entry into the market.

NetComm is a developer of broadband product which it sells to telecommunications providers, core network providers and systems integrators (SI) in the telco carrier, machine-to-machine (M2M) and rural broadband markets.

The Tokyo branch is NetComm’s first sales office in Asia, and will be led by Kei Hara who is responsible for supporting new business opportunities in line with the vendor’s M2M strategy.

"M2M is set to surge in Japan and we are pleased to launch NetComm’s M2M business in Tokyo as Japanese companies prepare for mass adoption,” NetComm chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director, David Stewart, said. “We look forward to driving collaborative growth by making economical, scalable and adaptable M2M technologies easily accessible to Japanese carriers, industry verticals and companies wanting to expand their global footprint.”

Having appointed Kanematsu in late April, NetComm will work with the distributor to attract leading carriers and export companies to meet what it deems a surging demand for M2M solutions in areas such as utilities, point of sale (POS), agriculture, logistics, and healthcare.

The partnership is expected to maximise the effectiveness of M2M developments and create new areas of growth in Japan’s market.

According to NetComm, the Japanese ICT market value is expected to double from $US1.2 trillion in 2011 to $US2.4 tn in 2020. Much of it is expected to be driven by the growth in M2M communications as a result of Japanese network operators partnering with foreign device manufacturers to provide domestic and export customers with cost-effective solutions.

"Japan leads technological innovation in terms of electronics and national connectivity, and is now on the cusp of significant M2M growth,” Kanematsu corporate sales division general manager, Koji Nishimaki, said. “Our relationship with NetComm Wireless will play an important role in our strategy to capitalise on Japan's rapid M2M market growth in partnership with our carrier and enterprise customers."
