A new travel app for Google Glass could put an end to the need for travellers to be glued to their smartphones while in transit.
Travellers can now access all their travel plans on Google Glass with the new TripIt app from Concur.
The app gives timely trip information at eye level when travellers are faced with gate changes, flight delays and cancellations.
TripIt was selected to bring its all-in-one travel organiser to Glass along with an exclusive group of travel partners.
Flight details are displayed upon arrival at the airport, followed by a car rental, hotel, and any other travel reservations previously forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For TripIt Pro users, TripIt Glassware presents real-time flight status notifications at the right moment throughout the trip, including: check-in reminders, gate changes, flight delays, and more.
In one tap, a traveller can view alternate flights to find a faster way home or squeeze in a few extra hours in a favourite destination.
TripIt head of mobile, Rich Adams, said TripIt and Google shared a common goal to organise information and create technology to make people’s lives better.
“With TripIt, we’re always thinking about how travelling should work in pursuit of ‘The Perfect Trip,’" he said.Read more: Telstra and b2cloud reveal Google Glass projects for vision and hearing impaired
"Imagine being able to simultaneously enjoy a cup of coffee, carry your luggage through the airport and stay informed of changes.
"All your flight status updates are presented in plain view, freeing up your hands and making it easier to stay engaged with the world around you.”
TripIt Glassware is now available for download in Google Play.
While TripIt organises travel plans for free, a subscription to TripIt Pro is required for flight status alerts and notifications ($49/year).Read more: Wearable tech the next revolution for business: Deloitte
