NextDC S1 picked to house Barracuda’s Australian Cloud storage

Supports local Barracuda Backup and Cloud LiveBoot for VMware from Sydney datacentre

Californian appliance-based security and storage company, Barracuda Networks, has launched a local Cloud storage service which will utilise NextDC’s Sydney S1 datacentre.

The S1 is located in Macquarie Park and contains 5600sqm of technical space with a rack capacity of 2800. The facility was opened in October 2013.

The datacentre will be used to support Barracuda Backup customers. Barracuda Backup is an end-to-end backup solution for physical and virtual server environments.

“Being able to offer our local Australia customers the security, performance and nationally-consistent experience is increasingly important as those customers continue to migrate to the Cloud and want their critical backup data hosted primarily in country,” Barracuda Asia-Pacific (APAC) vice-president, Jeff Hurmuses, said.

S1 will also be used to deliver the vendor’s Cloud LiveBoot for VMware, a solution which boots a virtual machine directly to the Barracuda Cloud from de-duplicated backup storage.

Cloud LiveBoot is now available to Australian customers with an Instant Replacement subscription which are replicating to NextDC’s Sydney datacentre.

Barracuda said it intends to expand its sales and marketing opportunity to public and private sector organisations that prefer in-region facilities for primary Cloud storage.
