Web content management is not just about websites: Sitecore

Content management provider sees growing number of communication channels adding to marketing complexity

The challenges of managing online content are not just based around the website anymore, according to Sitecore A/NZ sales director, Kyle McManus.

In the late 90’s, McManus said making an update or a change to a company website was not an easy thing.

“Back then, it required some sort of coding or activity by IT to get involved before marketing could actually update or make a change to the website,” he said.

Now, McManus said the challenges are not limited to the site and have instead expanded into many other channels for marketing to deal with.

More ways to communicate

While web, mobile and tablet are the most standard methods of delivery, McManus said there are other areas, such as email, that remain important in communication.

“There are airlines out there looking at way at personalising and proving content for their in-flight entertainment,” he said.

McManus also highlights a property management client of Sitecore that is looking at personalising kiosks in shopping centres, which would present targeted information based on the person going through the mall.

“The number of communication channels has really grown dramatically, so the problem for marketing is how to update and keep all of that information fresh and relevant,” he said.
