Galaxy S4 to be powered by Snapdragon processor

The Samsung Galaxy S4 sold in Australia will be powered by a Qualcomm manufactured Snapdragon 600 processor

The Samsung Galaxy S4 sold in Australia will be powered by a Qualcomm manufactured Snapdragon 600 processor, the company has confirmed.

Samsung officially released a media statement confirming that 4G models of the Galaxy S4 in Australia and other LTE markets will use the Qualcomm chip.

The Galaxy S4's processor will differ in various markets, depending on whether or not the phone supports LTE. Non-4G models of the S4 will be powered by Samsung's own Exynos 5410 Octa processor.

"Samsung Australia is today confirming that the Samsung GALAXY S4 will be available in Australia with the quad-core 1.9 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Series 600 processor and 4G LTE compatibility," said a Samsung spokesperson.

"Globally, the majority of GS4 LTE versions will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon while 3G versions will be equipped with Samsung Exynos."

Samsung's confirmation of this technical specification comes two weeks after US blog SAMMobile suggested Samsung will use different processors for the Galaxy S4 depending on the global region.

Galaxy S4 models using the 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 chip will have the model number GT-I9505, while Samsung's own 1.6GHz Exynos processor will be used in the GT-I9500 model.

The GT-I9500 model of the Galaxy S4 doesn't support LTE, whereas the Snapdragon 600 chip includes category 3 LTE support. This covers the 1800MHz 4G band used in Australia by Telstra, Optus and in the near future, Vodafone.
