Open source software company, Acquia, has made some new hires to boost its local presence and Cloud offering.

David Peterson has joined as senior Drupal advisor. He has worked on many Drupal sites, including the ABC’s Hungry Beat and digital radio properties. He will be tasked with sharing his knowledge in the local Drupal community, offering training, encouraging local meetings and assisting partners with tenders, architectural issues and customer engagements.

Tine Sorensen also joins the team as technical account manager.

She has spent the last five years as a Drupal developer, spending most of her time in the publishing industry in Denmark.

Other appointments include Chris O’Neill as a client advisor and Daniel Worthy is part of a new global team responsible for the uptime and scalability of the Acquia Cloud, which is an open Cloud platform for Drupal, built on Amazon Web Services Elastic Compute Cloud.

Worthy will be responsible for designing and developing tools that automatically deploy, maintain and monitor LAMP-based hosting environments, as well as researching, specifying and testing hosting infrastructures.

Acquia opened its Asia Pacific headquarters in Sydney in November last year.

Acquia was co-founded by Drupal project’s creator, Dries Buytaert, in 2007.
