UPDATED: EMC and Rackspace bring global partnership to A/NZ

Tragetting finance, retail, media, and technology verticals

Information infrastructure technology provider, EMC Corporation, has extended its global relationship with open Cloud company, Rackspace, to include the Australian and New Zealand (A/NZ) market.

EMC A/NZ public Cloud national practice manager, Lincoln Lincoln, said EMC welcomes the extension of the alliance into A/NZ as Rackspace brings a strong pedigree of Cloud services to the local market.

"In Australia, we are seeing a massive market opportunity and market demand for Cloud services, so it is for that reason that both EMC and Rackspace are investing heavily in the local Cloud market," Lincoln said.

He said the investment Rackspace has made in EMC technology is testament to its insistence on choosing Cloud infrastructure to underpin its services.

Rackspace has collaborated with EMC since 2001 to bring a range of solutions leveraging EMC's portfolio of information infrastructure products. It joined the EMC Velocity Service Provider Program in November 2011 to develop new Cloud-based service offerings.

Rackspace has grown to serve more than 190,000 customers worldwide. Its core products include managed hosting, Cloud hosting, and email and apps.

“Security, reliability and efficiency are some of the fundamental components that organisations look for as they move workloads into the Cloud,” Lincoln said. “As an EMC Velocity Service Provider partner, Rackspace offers Australian organisations all these things as standard, in a new world class facility.”

According to Rackspace A/NZ country manager, Mark Randall, the timing of the extension is ideal for two key reasons.

“The first reason is because Rackspace’s Sydney datacentre will be opened next month to cater for the local customers’ hosting need,” he said. “Secondly, the Cloud market is booming. With that in place, the market needs vendors to provide Cloud services and hence storage as well.”

EMC is the only external storage platform offered in Rackspace’s new Sydney datacentre.

Both companies have stated that finance, retail, media and technology are the key industry verticals they will target.

At an exhibition hall, these vendors educated those that popped by their stands on these solutions and addressed some of the issues surrounding mobility, datacentres, and the Cloud. SOme of the big names there included f5, Palo Alto Networks, HP, Intel, Samsung, and Symantec.
