Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, has launched Australia Post Digital Mailbox, a closed and secure communications channel hosted in an Australian cloud.
The new digital mailbox will have “bank level security” and all communications will be encrypted, according to a statement. It will allow users to connect securely with service providers, including banks, utilities and government entities. It will also help the government agencies communicate about its services.
Users will also be able to receive statements, bills and correspondence, set reminders, and make payments using any computer or mobile device, with a single password, and use the mailbox as a "personal digital vault” to store important documents, according to the statement.
Unlike email, only certified providers will be able to connect to the service, meaning customers will be able to control who they receive communications from. The new service will come with a “range of payment options,” the statement said.
