Retina display shortage delaying new 13-inch MacBook Pro, iMac, iPad mini - report

Suppliers are struggling to keep up with Apple's huge orders of new products, new reports say

New reports suggest that Apple's launch schedule has been delayed due to Retina display production issues in the upstream supply chain.

Digitimes claims that Apple's rumoured 13in MacBook Pro with Retina display, the widely anticipated iPad mini and a new iMac lineup have been affected by weak yields of Retina displays.

The smaller iPad, which is believed have started the manufacturing process at Foxconn and Pegatron factories, is "suffering low yields for components such as the display and chassis, causing the upstream suppliers to be unable to satisfy Apple's orders," according to the report.

Digitimes' sources have said that the iPad mini's chassis uses similar material to the current iPad, but will have a different "design and tactile feel". It was expected that Apple would send out invitations on Wednesday for a special new products event, but the day drew to a close with no sign of a cryptic clue from the company.

The iPhone 5 also appears to be suffering supply problems, reportedly due to a 'quality control crackdown' at Foxconn factories following customer complaints that their new device arrived with scratches and dents.
