Tekken at Imax for Guinness World Record

Namco Bandai Partners (NBP) has announced that it is partnering with IGN in an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for ‘Largest screen used in a videogame tournament’ on Tuesday, September 11, at the Imax theatre in Sydney.

The Tekken Tag Tournament event will involve around 400 IGN community members who will fight for a spot in the European championships.

“Tekken is the big daddy of fighting games and there’s no better way to find Australia’s next Tekken Champion than playing off head-to-head – on the world’s biggest screen,” NBP sales and marketing director, Mark Gilbert, said.

According to IGN country manager, James Whitehead, the event is a significant milestone for Black Beta. “IGN’s Black Beta events are legendary for giving Aussie gamers early access to the biggest games, but our Tekken Tag Tournament 2 party is going to take it to the next level.”

The Tekken Tag Tournament game was first introduced in 1999. The second version will feature a new Fight Lab mode, where players can customise the moves and appearance of new training character, Bomot.

According to NBP, players that clear Fight lab will have mastered the complexities of Tekken and own their owned customised Combot which can be used in offline and non-ranked online play.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be available for PS3 and Xbox 360 from Microsoft in Australia and New Zealand on September 13, 2012.
