NBN creates 50 new jobs in North Sydney

$11 millon investment by Prysmian fibre company

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, is applauding an $11 million investment by Prysmian fibre company that will create up to 50 new jobs in North Sydney.

Speaking at the opening of Prysmian’s new ribbon fibre facility in Dee Why, Sydney, Senator Conroy said, “This is another example of how the Gillard Government’s investment in the NBN is bringing 21st century manufacturing jobs to Australia.

"The jobs at Prysmian are in addition to the 16,000 to 18,000 direct Australian jobs NBN Co estimates will be created as a direct result of the NBN.

“The NBN rollout is ramping up, with NBN Co on track to meet its target of having work commenced or completed for 758,000 homes and businesses by the end of this year,” Senator Conroy said.

Prysmian is a primary supplier of underground optic fibre cabling for the NBN rollout.

The company has invested more than $11 million in its Dee Why manufacturing facility, creating up to 50 new local jobs alongside the company’s 100 existing Dee Why employees.

“This investment will provide a boost for the local economy and is part of Prysmian’s commitment to source 80 per cent of the value of its contract with NBN Co in Australia,” Senator Conroy said.
