Sophos appoints Ashley Wearne GM for A/NZ

IT security and data protection company, Sophos, has appointed Ashley Wearne to the newly-created role of general manager for the A/NZ region, effective immediately.
Wearne will be based in the Sydney office and report directly to Singapore-based managing director for Asia-Pacific, Stuart Fisher. His appointment underpins Sophos’s continued investment in the region and a 10-year history of profitable growth.
Sophos reported 17 per cent year-on-year global growth for the 2012 financial year but the APAC region grew 27 per cent year-on-year and was the top performing region for Sophos worldwide. Wearne has 25 years of experience in the security and software industry in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe.
He will be responsible for all local management duties and driving the company’s complete security initiative across the ANZ region, supporting the overall Asia Pacific growth plans being driven by Fisher.
Wearne’s role will also include strong involvement in driving channel growth, a key focus for the company since its recent unveiling of a new partner program. “It was important to find a candidate that is both the right fit for the organisation and very capable of effectively managing a large team to meet the goals we’ve set to ensure Sophos’ ongoing success in the region. With Wearne’s extensive management expertise and strong channel track record, I’m confident he is the right person for the job and will excel at Sophos,” Fisher said. Wearne has worked for many years in enterprise sales, channel, marketing and managerial functions across many enterprise companies, including Adobe, McAfee, Novell and Unisys, transforming regional operations and driving success within them.
“I am delighted to be joining Sophos at a time when our customers face new technology trends such as Cloud computing, the adoption of mobile applications and employees bringing their own devices into the workplace,” he said.
