Salesforce.com CEO Benioff joins Cisco's board

The networking giant also names Enduring Hydro CEO Kristina Johnson to the board

Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff has been named to Cisco's board of directors, Cisco announced Thursday.

"Marc has changed the face of technology through his bold ideas around cloud computing and the social enterprise," Cisco CEO John Chambers said in a statement.

Cisco and Salesforce.com have partnered for some time, such as the 2009 deal that combined Salesforce.com's customer-service software with Cisco's unified communications technology.

In addition, Cisco has made cloud computing infrastructure a big part of its ongoing strategy. Benioff could lend valuable expertise to Cisco given his long experience in that arena and standing as head of the industry's largest pure cloud vendor.

Cisco also appointed Kristina Johnson, CEO of clean energy company Enduring Hydro, to its board, which now has 14 members.
