Former Brocade Australia regional sales manager, Patrick Devlin, has been appointed by business security solutions provider, WatchGuard Technologies, to lead its Australia and New Zealand business as country manager.
Devlin, who has more than 15 years’ experience in direct sales and channel development, replaces Scott Robertson, who was promoted to Asia-Pacific vice-president of sales in April, and has been dual-heading both roles since.
Devlin said that he noticed Robertson post the role on social network, LinkedIn, and took the opportunity to return to the smaller niche vendor space where he has realised success in the past.
Devlin said he was also attracted by the prospect of WatchGuard going public in the future due to its size.
“The idea that it is a private company that might go public again in the next couple of years is very exciting,” he said.
“Nowadays, there isn’t a lot of that opportunity left. Facebook aside, there haven’t been many high-profile IPOs in the last couple of years in the tech space; people have been nervous, especially with the GFC.
The transition is not official, nor has there been any announcement made, according to Devlin.
As Australia and New Zealand country manager, Devlin aims to drive the contingent to a 20 per cent quarterly growth. Currently, it sits at approximately 14 per cent.
On a personal level, he is looking to lift WatchGuard Australia and New Zealand into the enterprise space.
“What I’m hoping to do is attract high-up enterprise users and resellers,” Devlin said. “To do so, I’ll be recruiting enterprise customers and partners to drive growth.”
He is after partners who are looking to build or expand their security practice as security professionals, rather than attracting only those who can handle large volumes.
On the distributor front, Devlin said that he is happy with WatchGuard’s existing line up, which includes Distribution Central and WhiteGold for Australia.
