Frequent flying hurts the wallet, especially if you’re an Australian looking to cross borders. Virgin Australia’s new Flight Specials app, which was launched yesterday, brings you a list of discounted flight offers so you have more to spend on exotic souvenirs.
Flight Specials is divided into two key tabs: ‘specials’ and ‘happy hour’. ‘Specials’ is the home page, and lists all discounted flights based on the criteria. By default, it is set to depart from your closest city (depending on whether you allow it to track your location) to go to ‘anywhere.’ This can be filtered by continent, country, or city, with a neat alphabetical list popping up from the right that features currently discounted destinations.
The inappropriately named happy hour, which actually goes from 4pm to 6pm weekdays AEST (we aren’t complaining), offers even greater specials.
If you’re after something specific, the ‘alerts’ tab on the app allows you to input a criteria (departure/destination details, price range, time frame), at which point the app will send you push notifications when matching flights go on special
Overall, Flight Specials looks, feels, and works great.
Pros: Cheap flights in a free app, not much more needs to be said.
Cons: Although you fly for cheaper, you may end up flying more.
Verdict: If you’re a frequent flyer, or just like a quality holiday at a good price, Flight Specials is the app for you.
