iPad Mini release date, specs and rumours

Apple has been toying with the idea of releasing an iPad Mini for some time. But now, if the rumours are true, it looks as though the technology iGiant has got a ballpark release date in mind. There are some pretty interested spec rumours whizzing around too. Much then enough justification to produce an iPad Mini release date, specs and rumour article. See also iPhone 5 release date, specs and rumour round-up.
The idea behind this article is that we organise and present to you with everything you could wish to know about the iPad Mini. Naturally that includes its possible release date, some juicy specs and any other rumour we come across that is worth a mention. Visit iPad 4 release date, specs and rumour round-up
In short, it's the one place where you can find out everything you need to know about the iPad Mini. Remember though, PC Advisor is only reporting on the rumours that we come across and as Apple has a no comment policy on rumours, you must try not to hold us responsible if some of your favourite iPad Mini rumours are not included in the iPad mini, when (and if) it is eventually released.
We like to keep our readers informed here at PC Advisor, so before we go any further with scandalous rumours about a dreamy iPad Mini, you should know that Apple's former CEO and icon, Steve Jobs, was not too keen on the idea of a smaller iPad. In 2010 he said this about the possibility of an iPad mini "One naturally thinks that a seven-inch screen would offer 70 percent of the benefits of a ten-inch screen. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. The reason we won't make a seven-inch tablet isn't because we don't want to hit a lower price point, it's because we think the screen is too small to express the software."
iPad Mini release date
The iPad Mini's release date has already eluded us once before, so this time we're determined to make sure it does not happen again (although it might). You see, the technology world was convinced that Apple was going to announce the iPad Mini, alongside the new third generation iPad back in march this year. Alas, there was no such announcement.
That put an end to the gossip surrounding the iPad Mini, for a month or two, but now it's back with a bang. The latest piece of intelligence we have is that an October iPad Mini release date is what Apple has in mind. Not far away, eh?
How do we know this? Good question. The answer is we don't know this for sure. However, to use a horribly common metaphor, 'where there's smoke there's fire' and right now there is a puff or two of smoke directly above the iPad Mini.
Earlier this week, Pacific Crest analyst, Andy Hargreaves said this. "Checks with component suppliers suggest that Apple is beginning to provide order indications for a smaller iPad that is likely to launch before the holiday period." iPad Mini Specs
iPad Mini to have a 7.85-inch screen
The ballsy lads at tabtimes have been speaking to analyst Andy Hargreaves again (see above) and what they managed to get out of him was a few iPad Mini specs. The most impressive was that the screen size would be 7.85-inch. This places the iPad Mini in direct competition with the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire.
iPad Mini will use thin-film technology
By Ashleigh Allsopp, Macworld UK. The rumoured 7.85in iPad will have thin-film touch technology, and will launch by the fourth quarter of 2012, according to reports. In a report, Digitimes quotes industry sources who believe the smaller iPad, dubbed iPad 'Mini' will feature G/F2 thin-film touch technology. Nitto is thought to be supplying the thin-film materials, with Nissha Printing and TPK manufacturing the touch screens.
The thin-film technology will enable the iPad Mini to be thinner because it has one less layer than the current structure, said the sources. They also claim that the technology will help reduce costs. Read the full Apple to use thin-film touch technology in 7in iPad Mini article here.
iPad Mini will have a 1024x768 display
One final claim that Andrew Hargreaves made was that the iPad Mini will go on sale for $299 (£188) and part of the reason for the cheap price is that the screen will not be retina quality, instead opting for a 1024x768.
