Samsung hits play on its smart TV Foxtel application

Free three-month service for customers who purchase a TV throughout July

Electronics vendor, Samsung Electronics Australia, has launched the Foxtel application on its smart TV portfolio, which will bring its viewers up to 30 live streaming channels.

Foxtel on Internet TV - as it has been branded - was first confirmed on April 17 at Samsung’s most recent smart TV launch, following a period of rumours and speculation.

According to Samsung, the service eliminates the need for TV watchers to sign long-term lock-in contracts, or install a set-top-box. It has been designed and delivered with the aim of providing ease-of-access to consumers, according to Samsung Electronics Australia audio-visual group manager, Evan Manolis.

As part of the launch, customers who purchase a participating Samsung smart TV between July 1 and September 2 are eligible to receive a free three-month subscription to the Get Started Package, which includes FOX8, MTV, Nickelodeon, Channel V, and more.

“Our partnership with Samsung is part of a plan to broaden our distribution through other platforms and is an opportunity to reach even more people,” Foxtel product executive director, Jim Rudder, said.

“As the quality of the TV experience over broadband has improved, people have become more willing to consume content in different ways and as such it presents a great opportunity to distribute our programs that wasn’t previously there.”
