BSA offering up to $20k for piracy whistleblowers

Reward quadrupled from standard $5000 amount

The Business Software Alliance is once again accelerating its hunt for pirated or unlicensed software users by awarding up to $20,000 to informants for successful leads on businesses committing piracy.

The reward has been raised from the standard $5000 amount following the BSA’s 2011 Global Software Piracy Study, which highlights that the value of pirated software in Australia totalled $US763 last year.

Informants can register their leads through BSA’s Report Piracy page. The criteria for reports is outlined on the site.

The offer is open until July 31.

Last year, BSA ran a similar scheme, whereby it launched a Facebook competition to encourage whistleblowers to report business software frauds, with the chance to win a trip to the Caribbean as the prize.
