F5 launches pay-as-you-go licensing model

Application delivery networking (ADN) company, F5 Networks, has launched a new Cloud licensing program that aims to assist infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) Cloud providers in helping enterprise IT customers transition to a Cloud model. This utility billing model allows customers to leverage the same enterprise-class IT infrastructure that they have in their private Clouds, while giving the IaaS Cloud provider the ability to better manage their cash flow.

“F5’s new Cloud licensing program brings the power of our ADN solutions to the Cloud while offering the flexibility of a pay-as-you-go billing model,” F5 Australia and New Zealand managing director, Kurt Hansen, said.

F5 said the model gives IaaS providers the ability to branch out from competing on a price-per-compute basis and utilise all of its Big-IP Virtual Edition products to offer advanced ADN services and capabilities.

The vendor has also launched a Cohesion Cloud program for its traditional channel partners. The program provides such partners with the opportunity to engage with IaaS Cloud providers in Cloud-specific opportunities and sell a specialised software solution to qualified customers.

“The benefit of this is the enablement of channel partners in developing a new revenue stream to participate in,” Hansen said.

Additionally, he said that there is a qualification process that partners must go through in order to qualify. The criterion is based on volume and certification.
