Microsoft recognised as HBE ‘best of the best’ company

Microsoft Australia has been awarded the title ‘best of the best’ at the recent 2012 Aon Hewitt Best Employers (HBE) in A/NZ, recognising it as one of the top employers.

This is the second time Microsoft Australia has won the ‘best of the best’ title – the first time being in 2010.

Express Data was the only other IT company mentioned on the annual best employer list.

HBE conducts a survey of all employees within a company and holds intensive interviews with the directors and CEOs of the participating organisations before putting together an engagement score to determine the ranking.

In establishing the list of high performing businesses, HBE ranks Australian businesses on how they appeal to and retain talent.

Microsoft Australia human resources director, Rose Clements, said that it is honoured to receive the award as an IT company. “We participate in the award every other year, because that works with our business rhythm and we were named ‘best of the best’ with other businesses the last time around. This year, we were the sole company to achieve that salutation,” she said.

Clements said the effort of each and every employee within the organisation was the reason behind its win.

She claimed teamwork, collaboration, shared knowledge and mutual support for one another’s goals, aspirations and objectives were some of the aspects that supported its win.

“This has come as part of a deliberate strategy. We do not leave to chance the fact that we want to create a great work environment where people can come and invest their talent, innovation, ideas, passion and engagement,” Clements said.

She added that Microsoft Australia aimed to explore all the different features of the organisation, from the leadership and management capabilities to people practices, policies and processes, as well as the physical work environment, in creating a healthy work environment.

Microsoft invests in its people management capability and strives to align its goals with its employees’ personal dreams and goals so that they become one and the same.

“As leaders and managers, we need to remove obstacles out of the way so that they can get on and do exactly what they aspire to do, which is great work. We also work on regular feedback that we receive from our employees via a survey. There is always more to be done,” Clements said.

Microsoft Australia will not be complacent of its win and continue its ongoing investment, effort and planning in trying to achieve the title the next time around.
