Former Symantec vice-president and managing director, Craig Scroggie, has joined datacentre provider, NextDC, as its new CEO.

Scroggie has been linked with NextDC since November 1, 2010, when he was appointed as a non-executive director.

NextDC chairman, Roger Clarke, said at the time, “The Board is delighted to welcome Craig as an independent director for NextDC. Craig is a strong leader with a great track record.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience, industry knowledge as well as extensive corporate governance experience that is critical to the success of NextDC.

“Attracting a high calibre director like Craig reinforces NextDC’s commitment to the Australian market as the business enters into a phase of growth and expansion of its data centre portfolio.”

News of Scroggie’s resignation from Symantec broke on May 30.

He had been with the security vendor for eight-and-a-half years.

Scroggie was replaced by Brenton Smith who joined Symantec one year ago as Symantec.cloud business vice-president in Asia-Pacific after leaving his role as CA Technologies managing director in Australia.

He has worked for a number of other IT companies including BusinessObjects, Siebel Systems, Brightstar IT Group, and SAP.

Scroggie replaces current NextDC CEO, Bevan Slattery, who has moved up to the joint positions of executive director and deputy chairman.

Scroggie has also held senior leadership positions with Veritas Software, Computer Associates, EMC Corporation and Fujitsu.
