Kogan introduces IE7 tax

Vendor reluctant to waste money on catering for the browser version

Frustrated with the extra cost and inefficiency of using an outdated browser, Electronics vendor, Kogan, has implemented a surcharge for customers using Internet Explorer 7 for online purchases.

The tax, which is currently at 6.8 per cent, comes into effect today and applies to products on its online store.

“It’s a constant source of frustration for our Web guys and we’re sick of burning cash on a browser that hit the market nearly six years ago,” Kogan founder and CEO, Ruslan Kogan, said.

The surcharge is set to go up in monthly increments going forward.

“For every month since IE7 was released, we’re going to apply a 0.1 per cent tax - right now, that's at 6.8 per cent”

Kogan has included a pop-up on its site which encourages customers to download either a different browser, or a newer version of IE.

Kogan believes that the tax will contribute to improving the Internet.

According to StatCounter, IE7 users comprise 1.5 per cent of total Web browser users worldwide as of May 2012.

This is without a doubt one of the most interesting blogs I have
seen. It's so easy to tune out, but there's really some fantastic material on the internet, and I feel your site is definitely one of the few!
