URL filtering is of old technology and businesses should adopt newer technologies to protect themselves from online threats, according to Zscaler A/NZ southern region director, John Martens.
“In this day and age, it does not fulfill all the requirements of keeping the Internet safe. They need to get Web 2.0 and advanced threat capabilities,” he said.
The Cloud security vendor provides all of its offerings via the Cloud and claims it is a booming market within the evolving IT industry.
Zscaler vice-president of security research, Michael Sutton, said that the company made the move to provide Cloud-based solutions as it felt that that is the future of the industry – already being in an era where the workforce is already mobile.
He said that adoption of the Cloud in the industry is growing.
“If you look at the security space historically, it has been revolving either around host-based or appliance-based security. With the workforce changing, those approaches are becoming more limited,” he said.
Sutton mentioned that by providing protection through the Cloud, businesses can get an equal level of security regardless of what devices they are on or where they are using the devices from.
Zscaler intends to focus on building on its Cloud architecture in the coming years – especially within the mobile space.
Sutton said that its offerings are gaining more traction within the SMB space and to enhance its reach, it recently signed a distie deal with WhiteGold.
With effect from July 1, all of Zscaler’s products will go to the channel through WhiteGold and the company will be conducting a range of partner education forums on its channel direction.
