Tablet was incorrectly advertised as having a dual-core processor

Aldi has admitted it incorrectly advertised its budget $249 Android tablet as having a dual-core processor.

The Bauhn branded 9.7in Android tablet went on sale last week through Aldi stores across Australia. The product was initially advertised as having a "dual-core 1GHz processor" but the Aldi has since admitted it is powered by a 1GHz Amlogic 8726-M3 Cortex A9 processor, which is a single core chip with a separate graphics processor.

"The Bauhn Tablet advertised for sale on 6/6/2012 has been described as including a 1GHz dual core processor," reads the current product page listing on the Bauhn Web site. "The tablet incorporates a 1GHz Amlogic 8726-M3 Cortex A9 processor which includes a single core CPU (Central Processing Unit) and a separate Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)."

The clarification comes after PC World Australia first revealed the incorrect processor description last Thursday. The tablet was discovered listed as a product of Chinese OEM Tsxd (Shenzhen) Technology co. and available to purchase in a "minimum order" of 200 units.

Late last week, all references to the tablet were removed from the Bauhn Web site, which previously linked to further details about the tablet and included specific reference to a dual-core processor. Curiously, the sales packaging in the first allocation of stock also listed a dual-core processor as one of the device's key features.

Despite the incorrect advertisement, Aldi is understood to have exhausted stocks of the device across the country. However, the Bauhn home page currently states "more stock coming soon."

PC World Australia has contacted Aldi Australia to clarify stock levels and availability but is yet to receive a response.

So, spec for spec, the Aldi model is not that flash after-all. Is a partial refund in the offing? Or should they be fined lie Apple?

Terrance: Apple persisted with their subtefuge on a massive scale, Aldi fixed the mktg content when confronted. Have to see who actually made the error. Aldi may have also received the wrong data...

Refunds would have to be in the offing though???

The Big M... you are sadly, sorely mistaken. Apple at no times lied, it made it clear, right from the very beginning (i.e. the keynote) and at all points of sale, that the new iPad was only compatible with 4G networks in the US and Canada.

YOU are persisting with subterfuge on a massive scale by suggesting otherwise, and it is very sad to see it.

@The Big Mlie - While Apple may have not "lied" the definitely misrepresented the iPad3 in Australia as they advertised it as being 4G compatible here when it could not work with the only 4G network.

Well here we go again.
Aldi have this same unit for sale again on September 8th & have seemingly REPEATED their "mistake" of listing the product as a 'Dual Core Processor'. How do they get away with this?
