Legion Cabs' iOS app brings the Sydney-based company’s Web-based bookings service to your smartphone.
Through a very lite app, Legion Cabs lets you make your bookings on the go.
It features the essentials: an iHail map-friendly booking service, address input, favourites, quick locations, and a button to call the company.
The iHail feature, rather than giving you a form to fill out, uses GPS tracking to pinpoint your location, and then simply input your destination. If your location is not precise on the map, you can simply drag the pin to your location.
Alternatively, for those who prefer the old-school form, you can follow the ‘enter address’ link and input all relevant information.
Although useful for frequent flyers, the quick locations tab is far too limited and only features Sydney’s airport terminals. These quick locations are also found on Legion Cabs’ web page, so it is uncertain if they aim to add more key Sydney destinations, ie. the Opera House, Entertainment Centre, etc.
Additionally, the history tab lets you take a look at recent locations and use those, and the ‘find rank’ feature points you in the right direction during busy times where a booking may place you in a ridiculous queue.
Overall, the app works great. Apart from the limited ‘quick locations’ selections, the only negative is the very awkward colour scheme that appears to be trying to do too much. This is only an early version, though, and perhaps MTData will employ a simplistic approach for Legion Cabs in the future.
Pros: Free, tiny file size, very smooth functionality
Cons: Aesthetically unappealing
Verdict: An essential app for Sydney-siders who use cabs on a regular basis.
