myPlates Mate is a new app designed for Aussies to play out a few personalised number plates and review how they look before actually purchasing one.

It is a fun and easy way to pick out a new number plate. Its user interface (which somewhat reminds me of a pokie machine) is simple and easy to use.

You just have to download the app, upload a picture of your car or use one from the library and use the spindle to churn out alphabets and numbers to suit your desired combination.

Try your birthday, nickname, initials, or anything that means something to you.

Once you are done, you can view the plate on your car – even email it to your mates for a second opinion.

This app was reviewed on an iPhone 4.

Pros: An app that allows you to try a number plate before you buy it.

Cons: You can’t purchase the number plates directly from the app and have to check if the combination you chose is available.

Verdict: Simple, easy to use and might help you pick your next number plate.
