Data protection solutions provider, Spectra Logic, has increased its resource investment in the A/NZ region.
As part of its expansion strategy, Spectra Logic has opened a local office in Sydney and is investing in sales support and technical staff, including the appointment of Michael Cocks as A/NZ country manager.
According to Cocks, the decision to further increase its global presence is the direct result of escalating data growth and requirement for its management.
“Our focus for this region is on the archive and what we call new active archive market. We’re going after customers that have big data problems, which is an ever-growing need worldwide,” he said.
The company expanded into India last year and Cocks stated that reaching into the A/NZ market was the next logical step on the map for the company. In line with its expansion plans and as part of its SpectraEdge reseller program, the company is also investing in a channel recruitment program and has signed reseller partners – that include SGI, Storm FX, UXC Connect, Techtel, Data Engines, Intraware and Magna Systems.
The company is looking to actively recruit more partners. Spectra Logic intends to assist its channel partners in providing products that up until now was not able to provide within this geography, such as storage data tape libraries and its T-series range.
Cocks was appointed to the newly created role and his first focus is on pursuing and recruiting channel partners into the program.
“There are a number of opportunities we have in our pipeline that we are looking into. There will be some announcements on those over the next couple of months,” he added.
Prior to joining Spectra Logic, Cocks was employed with the Australian entity of Silicon Graphics for 16 years.
The company also hired a systems engineer, based in the Sydney office. It plans to grow the base organically over the next few years, but said its primary focus will be on channel growth.
Spectra Logic announced two of its Spectra Logic T950 enterprise tape libraries were deployed in the Australian National University’s (ANU) 9.5 petabytetape-based active archive to support its private data Cloud storage solution.
