Twitter teams with Russian search engine

Russian search firm Yandex will display a feed from Twitter in its search engine results, the two companies announced today.

Yandex, which claims to be the most popular search engine in Russia and the most visited website in the country, will show users both search results and an accompanying Twitter feed when a query is run. As part of the licensing agreement, Yandex will have access to the full feed of public tweets, which will be searchable by username or hashtag.

"With more than 250 million tweets a day, Twitter is a valuable information source and the fastest way to find out what's happening in your world," April Underwood, Twitter's director of business development, said in a statement released by Yandex. "Through this partnership, Yandex and Twitter will work together to make it easier for Yandex users in Russia and elsewhere to find real-time content about the people and things they care about most."

This is not Twitter's first agreement with a search engine. The company previously had partnerships with Microsoft's Bing search engine and Google, although Google now promotes its Google+ social networking feeds on its search results.
