FoodSwitch
Cost: Free | Developer: Bupa Australia Health | Platform: iphone and iPad | Version 1.00.5 | 5.1MB | 4.2+
I’m on a mission to adopt a healthier lifestyle and if you do too, this app might be a handy tool for you.
The FoodSwitch app helps you transform your food choices by providing healthier alternatives from what you would normally purchase.
All you have to do is download the app, use it to scan the barcodes of any Australian packaged food for you to get a better idea of what the food contains and what other similar ones with healthier content you can get.
Its colour-coded ratings for the four key food components (total fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt) provide you with immediate, easy-to-understand nutritional information. You can save the healthy favourites on a personalised shopping list for next time.
You can also share your choices with others via Facebook, Twitter or email.
This app was reviewed on an iPhone 4.
Pros: Lets you swap junk food for healthier alternatives.
Cons: Requires your mobile camera to have autofocus functionality – resulting in the app being unavailable for iPod and iPhone 3G devices.
Verdict: You don’t have to give up what you want, just pick a healthier alternative using the app.
