iPad 3: To have 4G, be announced 7 March - reports

Other rumours suggest LCD panel, back plate and dock connector have all been seen in the wild

Separate reports that have surfaced this week claim that the third-generation iPad will be 4G ready and launch on 7 March.

The 4G claim comes from the Wall Street Journal, which says that customers of US network carriers Verizon and AT&T will be able to hook up to super-fast 4G wireless networks with the new device which will be announced in the first week of March.

A separate report on the iMore blog claims that the iPad 3 announcement will take place on Wednesday 7 March. iMore's sources also believe that 4G capability is possible and again raises the prospect of a quad-core processor - something that many were dismissing only last week.

iMore talks of a Retina display for the iPad 3, something that iLab Factory claims to have had in its possession. As well as the display, the report also says that the back plate and dock connector of the iPad 3 have also been seen.

The three components tell us little that we haven't already heard about the iPad 3, though it does seem that the hole for the camera on what is thought to be the back plate of the iPad 3 is different to that on the iPad 2 - even though it is the same size, apparently.

The LCD panel is manufactured by Sharp and has a resolution of 2048 x 1536, which works out to a pixel density of 260 pixels per inch. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, currently the only Apple products to have a Retina display, have a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
