Primus cements NBN wholesale agreement

Still waiting for the rest of the ISP community to follow suit

Primus Telecom has signed its National Broadband Network (NBN) wholesale broadband agreement (WBA) with NBN Co.

The WBA determines the terms and conditions NBN Co has to comply with when providing NBN services to wholesale customers.

Primus was one of the first companies to join the mainland NBN trials last year.

While the ISP’s newest CEO, Paul Mazerski, has been critical of the certain aspects of the NBN, he is in favour of the $36 billion network rollout.

Primus is keen to work with NBN Co to bring out a broad range of NBN services including cheap IP telephony standalone products over the fibre network.

This new deal will no doubt alleviate some pressure on NBN Co which has encountered problems with getting more ISPs to sign WBA agreements.

ISPs were displeased with the NBN commercial contracts which would tie them down for five years and leave them vulnerable to liabilities associated with network failures.

NBN Co has since moved to address those issues.

ISPs currently participating in NBN trials will not be able to sign up new customers if they do not sign a WBA. So far, only a handful of ISPs have signed a WBA.
