Samsung Electronics Australia has unveiled a commercialised Super OLED TV and its Series 5 Ultra Ultrabook at the CES tradeshow in Las Vegas.

The 55-inch OLED will be produced from a single pane of glass and uses Samsung’s Super OLED technology. It features vivid and true-to-life picture quality in both 2D and 3D, with significantly improved colour accuracy compared to conventional LED TVs, according to the company.

“It incorporates true-to-life picture quality, Smart Interaction, Samsung Apps, 3D functionality and multitasking into a stunningly thin form factor,” Samsung Electronics Australia national sales and marketing manager – AV, Brad Wright, said.

The new TV uses Samsung’s new Smart Interaction technology to allow users to manage their TV experience by using voice control, motion control and face recognition features to complement the remote control.

It also features Samsung’s AllShare Play, a built-in HD camera, Samsung’s new dual core processor that allows users to run multiple apps simultaneously and improvements to Smart Hub – Samsung’s integrated destination for access to various types of content from a single screen.

It now displays a new tabbed Web browser, for users to open multiple pages at a time.

The company is also launching several signature services that include: a kids infotainment and games application, a fitness application and family story application.

Availability and pricing of the Samsung 55-inch Super OLED TV will be confirmed closer to the Australian launch date.

Samsung also launched its Series 5 Ultra Ultrabook at the tradeshow.

The company will offer sizable 14-inch screen variants with an optional integrated Optical Drive. Samsung’s Series 5 Ultra 13.3-inch weighs in at 1.39kg with a width of 17.6mm.

The series offers 500GB storage capabilities, is powered through an Intel Core i5 processor, and includes an ExpressCache flash memory and the AMD Radeon HD graphic card.

Both models carry Samsung’s 300nit HD LED SuperBright screens, Image Enhancer and anti-reflective technology.

The Samsung Notebook Series 5 Ultra will be launched in Australia in February 2012. RRP is $1499.

Samsung also launched its Series 9 monitor and added three Wi-Fi enabled cameras to its 2012 SMART Camera line-up.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
