Internode video streams music festival, looks to expand content business

Enhancements to the ISP's content delivery network has allowed for the on-demand streaming of the Gorgeous Festival

South Australia-based ISP, Internode, has kicked-started its entertainment content plans with the streaming of the first Gorgeous Festival at McLaren Vale.

The Festival, held on November 26, featured music acts including Icehouse, Josh Pyke and Emma Louise, all three of which were recorded live exclusively for Internode customers.

The content was offered to Internode ADSL and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) customers on an unmetered basis.

Enhancements to the ISP’s content delivery network (CDN) made the on-demand streaming of the festival possible.

Performances from the Gorgeous Festival were recorded, live-edited with post-production done by Internode’s in-house content team. Necessary permissions were gained before the ISP streamed the content.

“We intend to use this experience as a starting point for potential future events,” Internode managing director, Simon Hackett, said in a statement. “In an era when most mentions of ISPs and the creative work of artists involves high court challenges from Hollywood, we’re proud to do just a bit of what actually helps: Using our technology to connect the work of great artists to audiences in a legal and engaging way, across our brilliant national network.”

The high-profile copyright court case between Perth-based ISP, iiNet, and the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT) recently went to the High Court of Australia.

The High Court has yet to give a decision on whether iiNet infringed the copyright of content owners by not preventing its subscribers from pirating movies online.
