As IT is a major consumer of the world’s resources, there is a great deal of pressure on IT companies to behave in a sustainable manner. The ARN awards continues to support those companies at all levels of the channel that work hard to help customers do business in an environmentally-responsible manner.

Fujitsu is a company that takes sustainability very seriously, as it forms one of its top three management commitments from Japan.

Globally, Fujitsu has received recognition for the leadership role it plays in this space within the ICT industry, and for that it was recognised with this year’s ARN Award.

“The fact that Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand is home to our sustainability consulting centre of excellence, I think speaks volumes about the vision and commitment of our local management team to this issue as well as the strength of our local teams and broader organisation,” Fujitsu Global executive director of sustainability, Alison Rowe, said.

“Sustainability at Fujitsu is viewed as a true transformation program and our broad portfolio of ongoing initiatives reach into every area of our business.”

Looking towards 2012, Rowe sees Fujitsu looking to continue executing on its ambitious sustainability strategy, as the company has published targets for 2012 and will be very focused on achieving those goals.

It’s not the first time the global giant has won sustainability awards with ARN; it picked up Green IT project of the year in 2010.

“We have published targets for 2012, so the company as a whole will be very focused on achieving those goals,” Rowe said.

“We’re proud to work with some genuine leaders in sustainability. It means we are challenged by them to come up with innovations that help to unlock more of the potential of IT to help achieve a low carbon future.”

And given the looming carbon tax will have power costs right at the front of mind for many organisations moving forward, sustainability skills like that which Fujitsu has developed are likely to be high in demand indeed.

Please note: the winners of the Sustainability Distributor of the Year, Distribution Central, and Sustainability Vendor of the Year, APC, also won other awards and their interviews are already online.

Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
