Each year ARN recognises the personal achievements of some of the channel’s brightest personalities. Across three categories – Customer Service, Sales Excellence and Technical Excellence, this year’s finalists and winners went above and beyond to help their organisations succeed.
When faced with the question of why Southern Cross Computer Systems (SCCS) general manager of software solutions, Tung Chau, was recognised with an ARN award, SCSS managing director, Mark Kalmus, narrows it down to a specific incident that took place this year.
“There was a time during a complex project, which went for a year and had some significant milestones, when our existing project manager was unfortunately involved in a motorcycle accident,” Kalmus explained.
“As a result, Tung had to undertake a lot of that person’s functions, in addition to his existing duties as the general manager of the software solutions group.”
With Chau thrust into the position of juggling many different roles and being involved in steering committees to ensure that the project ran on time and budget, Kalmus was impressed at how well his colleague stepped up to the program and project management functions, as well as the day-to-day commercial and contract management functions he performed as part of his regular job.
“He’s very good at juggling many different balls in a project, whether it’s from a truly technical and development level to the commercial and contractual requirements of a complex and large project,” he said.
With SCSS experiencing good business in July, though slower in August and September due to a general slowdown, Kalmus has an overall positive outlook for the company’s next quarter in November and December.
“We’re encouraged by that, and hope that events outside of our control won’t affect our customer segments too much,” he said.
Nominations for the 2012 ARN IT Industry Awards open on Tuesday, June 12.
